How I Made My Indomie Noodles More Filling and Weight-Loss Friendly

Stir fried indomie noodles with steamed egg white bites

When I first started my weight loss journey, every time I craved something that my brain had been conditioned to think was unhealthy, I would look for a substitute. But here’s the problem: most substitutes don’t hit the spot. I’d end up eating the substitute and the original food I was craving, which pushed me into a calorie surplus. I was going in circles, depriving myself and then overindulging.

One day, I came across a TikTok creator (I wish I remembered her name!) who said something that changed the way I look at food:

👉 “Eat what you want, add what you need.”

Instead of taking food away, she encouraged us to add to it, make it more balanced and nourishing. That’s the mindset I carry now.

Take instant noodles, for example. Everybody knows it’s not a “health food,” but cravings don’t care about that. Today, I was craving Indomie noodles. Instead of fighting it, I asked myself: How can I make this meal more filling, lower in calories, and better for me while still keeping the flavor?

When I wasn’t tracking calories, here’s how I used to eat noodles:

  • 2 packs of Indomie = 640 calories
  • 2-egg omelet or fried chicken = +200 calories
  • Bottle of soda or juice = +150 calories
  • Some sprinkled veggies for “balance”

➡️ Total = 990 calories in one meal!

No wonder I struggled with my weight.

But here’s today’s smarter version:

  • 1 pack Indomie (320 calories)
  • Bulked up with thinly sliced carrots
  • Added steamed egg white bites (protein!)
  • Cooked with minimal oil and soy sauce

➡️ Total = 470 calories and it was just as satisfying, actually more filling. And the best part? My family approved!

Is it macros-friendly? Honestly, I don’t know, and I don’t really track them. For now, I’m more focused on satiety and staying within my daily calorie needs. Later on, when I get to the body recomposition stage of my journey, my nutrition goals might shift. But for now, what matters most to me is that the food I eat is balanced, satisfying, and doesn’t feel like “diet food.” This stir-fry noodles recipe checked all those boxes perfectly.

Stir Fry Indomie Noodles with Carrots and Egg Whites

A low-calorie, filling twist on Indomie noodles! This recipe uses carrots and steamed egg white bites to bulk up the meal without losing the flavor you crave; all under 500 calories.
Prep Time 5 minutes
Cook Time 10 minutes
Servings: 1
Course: dinner, lunch, Main Course
Cuisine: fusion, Nigerian
Calories: 470

Ingredients

  • 1 70 g pack Indomie chicken flavor noodles
  • ½ habanero pepper chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 tsp vegetable oil
  • 145 g carrots thinly sliced
  • 1 tbsp low sodium soy sauce
  • 1 serving steamed egg white bites for protein
  • Chopped green onions for garnish

Method

  1. Heat a saucepan over medium heat, add the oil and sauté garlic and habanero until fragrant.
  2. Add carrots and continue to stir-fry for about 1 minute.
  3. In a separate pot, cook noodles in plain water. Remove them as soon as they loosen up (don’t cook fully to avoid mushy stir fry).
  4. Add half of the seasoning packet and soy sauce into the stir fry, then toss in the noodles. Stir until noodles reach desired softness.
  5. Serve hot with steamed egg white bites on the side.
  6. Garnish with chopped green onions and enjoy!

Notes

  • Using only half the seasoning keeps sodium lower without losing flavor.
  • Steamed egg white bites add protein without heavy calories.
  • Swap carrots with zucchini, cabbage, or bell peppers if desired.

Why This Works

✅ You still get the noodle flavor you crave.
✅ Veggies add bulk and fiber.
✅ Protein makes it filling and keeps you from overeating.
✅ You cut the calories by half compared to the old version.

This is the perfect example of not needing to give up your favorite foods to lose weight. You just need to add what you need.
