You’ve heard that oat swallow is healthy, right? But here’s the thing: some people eat it like it’s their last supper 😅.
If you’re on a weight-loss journey, portion control is your best friend. Let me show you how I made a 150-calorie oat swallow that left me stuffed and happy!
I used just 50 g of oats. Yes, I know the serving on the pack says 40 g, but a bit always sticks to the pot, so 50 g hits the sweet spot. I blended the oats into a fine powder and then prepared it just like amala, stirring till it thickened into a smooth, stretchy swallow.
Here’s my golden rule for staying on track:
👉 Small swallow, plenty soup!
The soup should be low in calories though, not the type that has one barrel of oil floating on top 😅.
I served mine with a big bowl of efo riro (you can find the recipe here), and let me tell you, it was so satisfying. You can also pair it with okra soup, or any of your favorite healthy soups.
Healthy eating doesn’t have to mean deprivation; it just means making smart swaps and striking a balance! 💚

Oat Swallow (150 Calories Version)
Ingredients
Method
- Add 50 g of oats into a dry blender and blend until it becomes a fine powder.
- Bring water to a boil in a small pot.
- Gradually add the blended oat flour while stirring continuously to avoid lumps.
- Keep stirring over low heat until it thickens and forms a smooth, stretchy consistency like amala.
- Adjust the texture with a splash of hot water if needed, then stir again until smooth.
- Wrap in cling film or serve immediately with your preferred low-calorie soup.
Notes
- The oat swallow thickens as it cools, so stop cooking when it’s slightly softer than your desired consistency.
- Serve with efo riro, okra soup, or any low-calorie stew of choice for a balanced meal.
- 50 g of oats makes one 150-calorie serving, perfect for portion control.
