Yesterday, I kicked off my Streaktember challenge with a 1.04-mile treadmill run. It felt great to get moving, but I had to slow down and walk a few times just to catch my breath. Today, I showed up again for Day 2 and it felt noticeably stronger!
Today’s Run
Today was Day 2 of my Streaktember challenge, and I clocked 1.03 miles on the treadmill. Unlike yesterday, when I slowed down to a walk at times, I ran the whole way through at a steady pace of 5mph.
It took me about 15 minutes, and I managed to squeeze it in while my oldest was having breakfast and getting ready for school, and while the baby was still asleep. That little window of quiet time was just enough to get it done ✅
Calories Burned vs. Reality Check
Here’s the surprising part: in those 15 minutes of running, I only burned 157 calories. At first glance, it doesn’t feel like much considering the effort that went into it. But this is exactly why I always remind myself and now you thaT: 👉 Weight loss starts in the kitchen, not the gym.
It’s so easy to think, “I ran today, I earned this extra snack,” but exercise calories add up slower than food calories. If you eat back everything you burned (and more), you won’t see progress. In fact, it’s possible to stall or even gain weight.
Running (and movement in general) is amazing for fitness, strength, endurance, and mental health, but diet is the real driver of fat loss.

Final Thoughts
Day 2 felt stronger than Day 1. I pushed myself a little harder and didn’t walk at all, which is a win. Small steps add up, and I’m looking forward to seeing how consistent running, paired with mindful eating, will shape this journey by the end of September.
