Streaktember Challenge – Day 5: A Little Lighter, A Little Faster

Day 5 of the Streaktember Challenge is officially in the books! Today reminded me that every run feels different, but not every run feels like yesterday’s hell.

I won’t lie, I was still a bit reluctant to start, but once I hopped on the treadmill, it wasn’t as much of a battle as yesterday. Yesterday I had to fight myself every single step of the way (still shuddering at the thought). Today was smoother; not easy, but smoother.

And once again, my “mom radar” went off. I got up early, just like yesterday, trying to sneak in my run before the kids woke up. As I stepped off the treadmill, I saw my little “baby” downstairs. Okay, he’s not technically a baby, he’s 2 years old but he’s still my baby! I was so shocked to see him that early; it wasn’t even 6 am yet.

The Stats

  • 1 mile run time: 12:25 (my fastest yet!)
  • Total distance: 1.11 miles (I walked a bit after running to close my exercise ring)
  • Effort score: 6 (moderate) compared to Days 1–4, where it was 7 (hard)

That effort score made me smile. It confirmed what I had felt: today’s run was less draining, my recovery was quicker, and starting my day didn’t feel as exhausting as it had yesterday. It gave me a more positive outlook and reminded me that progress really does show up little by little. I know I can finish this streak.

Takeaway Tip

Not every run will feel the same; some days will feel like flying, others will feel like dragging a boulder. But showing up consistently is what creates progress. Tracking small wins like pace, effort score, or recovery time can keep you motivated even when the scale or mirror doesn’t show results right away.
