Streaktember Challenge – Day 7: Rested, Ready & My Easiest Run Yet

I can’t believe it’s already been a week of running every day for Streaktember! Day 7 felt completely different from the days before, and I think I finally figured out why: proper rest.

Yesterday, I started planning ahead because I knew I would be on a time crunch. I usually record my runs for social media, and I had also planned to film a fried rice recipe for my blog. On top of that, I had house chores that had rolled over from the day before. To set myself up for success, I came up with a clever plan:

👉🏾 I attended Saturday night service instead of Sunday morning, so I wouldn’t have the early morning “church rush.” When we got home, I gave the kids their dinner, tucked them into bed, and got to work. I powered through my chores, filmed the fried rice recipe, and finally wrapped everything up around 2 a.m.

This morning, I let myself sleep in with no alarms and woke up just before 9 a.m. Fully rested, with no cooking or cleaning hanging over my head, I stepped onto the treadmill feeling lighter and more focused. And wow! What a difference it made!

For the first time, I ran 10 minutes straight without holding onto the treadmill bar (I usually give in around the 3-minute mark). It honestly felt like a walk in the park compared to earlier runs. My pace was the fastest so far: 12:18 per mile, and my effort score showed moderate instead of hard, just like Friday. My body is finally starting to adjust to daily runs, and I couldn’t be happier.

This first week has taught me that some days will feel impossible, but consistency really pays off. The biggest lesson? Sleep and recovery matter just as much as the workout itself. When I was exhausted, every run felt like a battle. With proper rest, it felt effortless.

I’m so proud of myself for completing the first week. Some days were tough, but I stuck it out. Maybe before this month is over, I’ll even be able to run 2 miles. Who knows?

💡 Lessons from Day 7

  • Proper rest makes all the difference in performance.
  • Planning ahead helps reduce stress and makes room for consistency.
  • Sometimes the easiest run is just a sign that your body is finally adapting.
