Streaktember Challenge – Day 6: Beating the Saturday Rush

Saturdays are already packed for me with chores, cooking, and errands, so I knew today would be a challenge. I planned to wake up at 5 am to complete my streaktember challenge for today, but somehow, I either turned off the alarm in my sleep or didn’t hear it at all. I woke up feeling proud of myself for getting up “early”, only to look at the clock and see 7 am. My goodness!

I had a lot to do: cook moin moin (which is no small task), clean the house, and run errands. For a moment, I seriously considered skipping today. But then I reminded myself: I cannot break this streak. So, I ran downstairs and got started. Thankfully, I had prepped last night: peeled the beans, boiled the mackerel and eggs; so blending and mixing the batter didn’t take long. While the moin moin was steaming, I decided it was now or never.

It really felt like a race against time. I had to complete the run before my kids came downstairs, especially my two-year-old “baby”, who would 100% try to climb onto the treadmill with me if he saw it running. Moms, you know exactly what I mean! So I jumped on, mind racing with my endless to-do list, and before I knew it, 1 mile was done.

Surprisingly, I didn’t feel spent afterward. Maybe it was adrenaline, or maybe just knowing I couldn’t waste a second. Either way, I’m proud I managed to check off Day 6 ✅ even with a busy Saturday schedule.

Lessons from Day 6

  • Sometimes urgency works in your favor; being pressed for time keeps you from overthinking the workout.
  • Prepping meals and chores ahead of time can give you breathing room to fit in movement.
  • Mom life means you don’t just run against the treadmill timer, you’re also racing against when the kids wake up!
  • Don’t wait for the “perfect” time. Just do it when you can.
