Streaktember Challenge – Day 24: Running Through the Headache

Streaktember Day 24 will go down as one of the toughest days yet in this challenge. After the high of finally hitting 2 miles yesterday, I thought today would be a breeze. Instead, I woke up with one of the worst headaches I’ve had in a long time. The pain was so sharp it felt like a machete cutting through my head. At that moment, quitting crossed my mind, but then I reminded myself: I’ve come too far to give up now.

The Crash After the High

Yesterday’s milestone of completing 2 miles left me on a total high. I felt like I was finally breaking through my own barriers. But by late afternoon, a throbbing headache began, and by night it had worsened. I went to bed early hoping rest would help, but when I woke at 4:30 a.m., the pain had intensified.

I tried to pray, rest, and even change positions, but nothing was working. By 8 a.m., the headache was still raging. I whispered, “God help me”, because it felt like nothing else would.

Choosing to Push Through

By noon, I reluctantly took painkillers after realizing I couldn’t function otherwise. I usually avoid medication, preferring lifestyle fixes, but today I had no choice. After some rest, I finally began to feel normal again by mid-afternoon.

But then the mental battle started. Should I run today or call it quits? Honestly, if this had happened in the first week, I would have quit without looking back. But this is Day 24. I’ve come too far, and I couldn’t let a headache stop me.

Evening Run Redemption

By God’s grace, my baby took a late nap, and I grabbed the opportunity. My goal wasn’t 2 miles; not even close. The goal was simply to get on the treadmill and finish at least 1 mile. And that’s exactly what I did.

It was my first evening run since starting this challenge, but the timing didn’t matter. What mattered was keeping the streak alive. As long as my legs work, I will finish this challenge.
